Art grant awarded for energy projects

Teena Hagerman of Coarsegold is one of two Madera County artists to be awarded funding by the MCAC for projects that encouraged education in the area of energy efficiency and conservation.

She received $3,800 to create the performance “Get Energized.”
It will open at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday [May 26] at Rivergold School.
Twenty four students researched sources of energy, studied energy efficiency and translated their information into a dance performance and vignettes.

The following week, the students will repeat this performance at Coarsegold School and again at Raymond School, for the student body.
Frank Bigelow, Madera County Supervisor (District I), and Bill McCabe, Superintendent of Coarsegold and Yosemite School Districts, will attend the opening performance.

The California Arts Council formed a partnership with Pacific Gas and Electric to provide monies for such arts projects. Cooperation between business and education is an attractive source of funding for the arts and education at a time when the state is making deep cuts in funding.
