Members of Mr. Doug Rudholm’s fourth-grade class at Coarsegold Elementary
School are helping those in need this year through participation
of a canned food drive.
Tomorrow
is Thanksgiving and many families in the Mountain Area will be eating
dinners that they may not have had without the kindness from others.
Others, such as Mr. Doug Rudholm’s fourth grade class, who won the
canned food drive at Coarsegold Elementary School. Rudholm and his
class delivered a truck load of food to the Manna House in Oakhurst,
on Friday, of last week.
Beverly Jones and Paul Trumpower, both of Raymond, volunteer twice
a week at the Manna House in Oakhurst and said this would really
help them get through the holidays.
“So far 246 people have signed up for dinner boxes for Thanksgiving,”
Jones said. “We usually try to put a complete dinner together in
a box, right now we have someone donating 100 Turkeys.”
Jones said that this time of year and especially in-between Thanksgiving
and Christmas is when they see a lot of Mountain Area residents
come together and bring in food for those less fortunate. Easter
is also a busy time for the Manna House as they also give out dinner
boxes with hams.
Rudholm said his class got a lot of help from local business, Grocery
Discount Center in Oakhurst.
“The kids are very excited, three reasons being, one to give to
the needy, two being of good service, and three getting out of class,”
Rudholm said.
The fourth-graders delivered their mountain of food just in time,
as yesterday was the day for pick-ups for the dinner boxes. Jones
said that Coarsegold was the only school to donate food before Thanksgiving.
She said others will donate during the month of December, including
Yosemite High School.
