Nathan Lynch shares time with both sets of grandparents at River Gold Elementary School.

In honor of Grandparents Day, Sunday, Sept. 12, Mr. Costin’s second grade students at Rivergold Elementary School in Coarsegold shared part of their day with their grandparents.

Mr. Costin had several things planned for the grandparents.

Students came in from recess and met their grandparents who were just arriving for their special day.

As soon as all grandparents and students were settled in their seats, Mr. Costin had each student introduce their grandparents.
Some children had substitute grandparents and some had their parents there instead.

One student had her mother there and when it came time for letters to be read from missing grandparents, her mother read a letter from her grandparents who said they wished they could be there.

The student stopped her mother mid-sentence and told her to read it louder. Everyone in the room laughed.

After the grandparents shared stories of how school was in their day, the kids gathered at the front of the room and sang a special song to their grandparents, “I Think You’re Wonderful,” and pointed to their respective grandparents.

After their song, the children and their grandparents had activity time. Nathan Lynch had two sets of grandparents visiting and shared with them some of his books and other items he had stored in a box with his name on it.

They then went over to Nathan’s desk and he showed them books and they all read together.

Other grandparents played board games such as checkers, Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land and Trouble. And others signed a special scroll and wrote special messages to their grandchildren.

Mr. Costin completed the special occasion by serving punch, cookies and cupcakes. Everyone had a great time.
